Appointment Types

Face-to-Face Appointment

A Face-to-Face appointment is a traditional tutoring appointment.  Writers will meet their tutor at the Writing Center in the Lewis University Library.  Sessions last a half hour, with the opportunity to sign up for an hour.  To make a Face-to-Face appointment, visit or call (815) 836-5427.

Writers should bring:

  • Instructor’s assignment sheet
  • Grading rubric
  • Two copies of a pre-writing piece or rough draft.

Writers who are not on campus can take advantage of the Center’s two types of online response appointments:

Real Time Phone Appointment

Similar to a Face-to-Face, writers can collaborate with a tutor online using Google Documents.  When making your appointment at, select “Real Time Phone Appointment,” upload your paper, assignment sheet, and rubric.  The tutor will contact you at the beginning of your session.

Email Response Appointment

Writers can email their paper to  A tutor will respond with comments and feedback within 24-48 hours.  Please note:  You do not need to schedule an appointment to email your paper to the Writing Center.

Joint Tutor/Research Librarian Appointment

Receive assistance from both a Writing Center tutor and a Research Librarian at the same time. When making an appointment at, select “ Joint Writing Center and Research Librarian.
